HAL Aerospace Museum and Tiruvannamalai Temple Photos

It’s been a long time since I put up a post with lots of photos, so I am putting up one now 🙂 I am either too lazy to take photos or my cell phone is too complicated for such operations. Anyways, crossing all the self-inflicted hurdles, I managed to take some photos. Hope to travel around and take more photos in future…

The below are some pictures taken in HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum, Bangalore. This museum is located in the Airport road, at a distance of 1.5 KM from the old airport. If you come from Indira Nagar, this museum will be located on the left-hand side of the road. You’ll be able to see it from the main road.

Here, one can find real models of various war-aircrafts, helicopters, etc. built by HAL over the years (now decommissioned, I guess). These are available in the open-air gallery. There is a separate indoor gallery where one can find lot of information about airplanes and HAL, in general. You can find photos, audio-visual presentations and info on the various parts inside an airplane (used for defense).

This is a good tourist attraction as it is located inside the city and tourists can spend a couple of hours happily taking their pictures near various fighter-air-crafts and also learn more about these planes. I wish they took us on a ride in one, but at present (at least), this facility is not available!!

The below photo was taken in front of the Tiruvannamalai Temple (Annamalai is another name of God Shiva) in TN. Quite a big temple this.

Actually I went to attend the marriage of a relative, there. And they gave one small booklet to everyone. There was one section in it, which was quite interesting. It was in Tamil, but I will translate it for you people.

Why should you eat food by sitting down on the floor (with your legs folded)?

Since the eating culture is changing very fast in our country, we are eating food by standing, sitting on the sofa, walking etc. Instead of eating food sitting on the chairs of the dining table (sometimes with one leg over another, sometimes without removing shoes, sometimes watching TV simultaneously), it is better to follow the habit of our ancestors – sitting on the floor with legs in folded position as it is good for the health.

When we eat food, there is some movement in some joints in our body – this movement will cause some pressure on the joints. Sitting down with legs folded would help reduce this pressure, which is good for the joints. Also, when we are standing or comfortably sitting on the sofa, there is more chance that we would eat more (lot of) food, which is also not good for health. Even today’s medicine advises you not to eat so much food that your stomach is full.

So, you fast-food-culture-brought-up people, know this :D. Of course, fast food in itself is bad for health.

for someone who doesn't click much these are great snaps….. 🙂

and i have been to Tiruvannamalai once and it is very serene and beautiful.. with all the aashrams..

and i totally agree to eating sitting down on the floor is the best way to eat..

i feel that our ancestors had great techniques to good health.. only they failed to properly convey them to this generation which seeks logical explanation to everything..

That's right – this generation has failed in both counts – they memorize scientific concepts and practice 'untouchability' with religion. Heights of hopelessness.

    Lovely pictures !!!!!

sitting down and eating is still something we all do… from time to time… !!!

its a good way to eat and I agree… !!!!

Actually I myself do it very rarely! My legs pain by eating like that. But recently I discovered that if I use a small pillow and sit on that, its better and easier"

the pictures are really cool DI…

and that piece info is good and thanks for sharing.. 🙂

except in office and hotels.. I will eat by sitting in the floor only 🙂

hmm never knew that abt eating food while sitting on the floor! i guess this is why they say folks of the previous zamaana enjoyed knew better! 🙂

So, folks of previous generation enjoyed better or knew better?

  5. Vimmuuu

Nice pics buddy ! The second pic looks like your header too !!! 😀 😀 😀

and guess what, I prefer sitting on the floor and having food !! Its sad that they dont let us do that in the restaurants !! 🙁

I am having this template only for that header – I am in love with it! Maybe I like such patterns… It would be better if in the marriages they bring back this method…

  6. sakhi

    nice pics 🙂

We do sit on the floor to eat at home! 🙂

    1. sakhi

Even to eat fast food… 😉

Good to know that… the fast food thing is something that we are not able to avoid isin't it?

DI – U made my day! I can never get over my passion of aircrafts, which even as a child I relished and continue to do so! Nothing can be more interesting than flying – perhaps!

And thanks for that tip about eating! Makes a lot of sense!

Then you should pursue your passion – I guess there are a lot of interesting hobbies that let you fly…

Thse pics are very nice, but ,if there were explanatory notes along side ,it would have helped.

I went along with my cousins… so not able to take down the details of individual planes

  9. Swaram

Pics from two of my fav places 🙂 Hw nice 🙂
Nice note abt the old-is-gold practice of having meals!

I never knew that there was such a museum in Bangalore… actually I like visiting museums – before I leave, I want to visit the Scientific museum too… Let's see

This is quite an interesting and different post! The different parts of the aircraft photos in close-ups are nice. Name the parts……!

Thiruvannamali temple is a very very old temple and a famous one also. I know that sitting on the floor while eating is good for health, but don't follow…the whole place is full of furniture. This makes us sit on the sofa and dining table, whether we like it or not. If we have lots of guests, we remove the furniture, sit on the floor and eat. Then sit on the floor and chat…this is better than sitting on the sofas and chatting….this is one more tip!

Sitting on the floor to chat is also interesting, need to follow some such concepts for better health

Excellent photos, DI! 🙂 And yes, a little more about the planes would have made it more interesting.

As for eating while being seated on the floor, I definitely prefer eating while seated in a chair, sofa, stool etc. thank you very much! 🙂

Yeah, but went there with cousins, so did not want to be left alone taking down details of planes! I too prefer eating on the sofa, but I am afraid I will lose the flexibility in my body if I don't sit down to eat at all

  12. vishesh unni raghuna

nice photos 🙂 As for eating on the floor…ya like when ever they have those functions I do, other wise no way 🙂

I think we need to be more frequently sitting on the floor, otherwise it will be difficult to sit down even during functions!

  13. Nita

You may not take pictures often, but they have come out quite well! I particularly liked the one with the yellow roof. It's not easy to make mechnical things look so interesting!

Thanks, Nita – I have taken one more photo because of the encouragement I got here!

  14. Reema

    interesting!

Yeah… the photos or eating on the floor part?

  15. Indian Homemaker

I liked the last one the best, beautiful in fact! I love taking pictures and never step out of the house without a camera… 🙂

Not just siting on the flor to eat but to generally move our limbs and joints is very good for health. I feel it's more about being generally in a habit of doing one's own work that is healthy. Some of us call a maid for a glass of water then we call her to take the glass back. That isn't healthy either.

Eating too much is definitely unhealthy. I won't be able to sit on the floor and eat, because a table is easier to clean and serve on. My grand mothers used to cook on the floor (not on the counter) but this got them in the habit of calling someone to pass them the bowl, or salt or anything!! So I feel just being active is healthy, whether we sit on the table or on the floor.

That is right, being active is healthy – but certain habits like sitting on the floor etc, help you maintain activeness and keep our bodies flexible
