Tag: My top three movies of all time!

I should admit here that I don’t watch many movies. And I am very selective about the ones that I do. But still, I thought if I create this tag, many of you will come up with the best movies that you have watched till now, and that might help me make a list of movies that I can watch (Yeah, I have some free time in my hands now πŸ™‚ ).All time Top Three movies - Tag

General guidelines for the tag:

List all time top three movies that you have watched in at least two languages (Even one or three should be ok, I guess). Write a brief description about each mentioning why you liked it. Also, do tag others.

Ok, I will do this tag first.

English:

#1 Pursuit of Happiness

This is simply my most favorite movie of all time in English. I have watched very less English movies, but still I somehow believe that no movie can match this! Will Smith has given the performance of his life, in this movie. I liked this movie because, it gives out a simple message that anything is possible if we try hard enough, in a very effective way. I do not generally cry after watching any movie – but after watching this, I confess that I was in tears!

#2 The Matrix (Part 1)

The Matrix is THE MATRIX. Period.

“What is Real? How do you define Real? If you are talking about your Senses, what you feel, taste, smell or see, then all you are talking about are electrical signals interpreted by your brain” – Morpheus in Matrix (This is my signature in one of my personal mail accounts).

#3 Twister

I know, this movie does not even figure in the top 25 movies of many people, but I thought this movie was Amazing! It had every thing, and the lead actors made it even better. Every time the Tornado gets bigger, you keep wondering at the marvels of nature!

Hindi:

#1 Chak De India

This was a perfect movie – every thing was perfect. Perfect enough that we don’t even notice that there are no songs and no heroine! I admire the skills of the director and the way in which he has conveyed some very important messages. Shah Rukh Khan was amazing in this movie!

#2 Taxi 9211

I wonder how many of us has even seen this movie. I happened to flip channels in my house one day, and this movie was going on, and I got interested. I am putting this movie here because of the powerful message given by the director in a very different way! My thinking pattern sort of changed after watching this movie!

#3 Dilwale Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge (DDLJ)

I am not a big fan of romantic movies with love stories, but lets give the credit to this movie – It was superb! To add to its credit, the on-screen chemistry between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, was just too good! Need I even mention the songs? This was the second Hindi movie I watched in a Theatre and I was very impressed.

Tamil:

#1 Anjali

I know this is not the #1 for many, but if someone asks me to list my top #1 movie in all the languages combined, this would be it!! After watching the movie, you don’t feel like donating to a charity supporting mentally retarded kids, you just feel that mentally retarded kids are one among us!! That, is the class of the director as he has conveyed this message even while keeping all the commercial elements needed to appeal to the mass movie watching audiences.

#2 Mouna Raagam

There could have been no better cast – Revathi, Karthik and Mohan, each sculpted their role to perfection. All credits to the director, as he takes a very sensitive subject but still comes out with flying colours! This movie has been a perfect example of how relationship based movies need to be made.

#3 Roja

This movie, I guess, needs no introduction. Perfect movie, perfect acting, perfect music and everything else is just too perfect!

I know, all the three movies in Tamil are directed by Mani Rathnam, but even if this had been a Top 5 tag, two more movies from the same director would have figured here!!

Ok, I am tagging my fellow bloggers in their comments section, for this tag. But even the readers can participate by listing their top three movies in the comments section of this post.

Destination Infinity

If you have done this tag, please let me know so that I can mention it below.

@ D.A has done this tag in the comments section below and these movies were recommended: The Painted Veil, Into the Wild and Amelie. All English, I guess πŸ™‚

@ Man of Roma has done this tag in the comments section below and these movies were recommended (Italian Movies):

1) Il gattopardo (The Leopard ) directed by Luchino Visconti, 1963.

2) Fellini 8 e mezzo directed by Federico Fellini, 1963

3) Bicycle Thieves, directed by Vittorio Se Sica, 1948.

Should people be interested in more recent works – although it has to be considered that Italian films were at a high international level only until the 1970s – these two are not bad in my view:

Il Postino (The Postman) 1994

Life is Beautiful (1997).

Here you have a description in English of the said movies among a wider list:

Again a good tag created by you DI πŸ™‚ I know u r obsessed with The Matrix πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Its a real good movie and me too liked it.. others in English.. I am yet to watch..

Chak de India is one of my favorites and will surely get a mention in my top # hindi movies I have watched till now.. others I am yet to watch..

Mounaraagam is the best movie of Manirantnam.. so simple yet its refreshing each time I see it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Other movies you have mentioned were good.. but not in my Top 3 πŸ™‚

Will do this tag soon DI πŸ™‚

I am then, waiting to see what your other two tamil movies are! Chak de gave out one more important message – team work is more important than individual efforts. We are so much obsessed with beating our own drum, and that clearly shows in the team events – we are nowhere near to the competition!

  2. Harini

When I saw the tag I was sure matrix would/ will have to be there :P. Will try to do… but selecting just 3 is near to impossible for me. You should have made top-10 atleast :P.

Know one more thing: I created this tag just to give THE MATRIX its right place in the Hall of Fame among lesser mortal movies and especially after that movie was ignored by many people including you πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ . You can list five, or even ten if you wish – we just get more movies to see!!

  3. vishesh

nice list πŸ™‚ Will do the tag πŸ™‚

Aren't the players the 'heroines' in chak de?

Yeah they are all heroines, but they are portrayed in a very different way from most of the other heroines that throng bollywood these days… thats the difference.

  4. Wortman

I look for three german movies πŸ™‚

Is it ok, if the movies are a little bit older?

Yeah, older movies are very much welcome – they should be great ones, that's all… πŸ™‚

  5. Reema

will do the tag..have done one of a to z..check it out
    http://opinionsandexpressions.wordpress.com/2009/http://opinionsandexpressions.wordpress.com/2008/

That should have taken a lot of thinking and efforts, well done!

  6. Sandhya

I have watched this movie 'Pursuit of happiness'…Smith and his son had acted very naturally and that was the reason I was crying too!

Normally, I don't like Sci-fi movies, but this was good.

'Twister', I still remember the movie, though it must be years since I had seen that movie! Scary one.

'Chak de India' was a well made movie. DDLJ…everyone will like it and I did too! 'Taxi 9211', is new to me. Will watch.

Anjali is a good movie. Mouna raagam and Roja…all time favourites! All are Mani Rathnam movies!

Will do this tag shortly! Can't we do 20 tag? It is difficult to select just 3!

You can mention more movies, that should not be a problem. But since describing each movie is going to be time consuming for a larger number of movies, that too in a couple of languages, I selected just three. You can do more, no problem…

  7. Avada Kedavra

I love all the 3 english ones you have mentioned.. Twister was a great movie too.. I remember how they keep following that Twister just to get some readings.. amazing movie.. DDLJ will be in my top list too and Roja is one of the best movies ever made!

Can I do top 5 or 10 or something? Choosing 3 is very tough.. I know the top 2 favorites though.. choosing the 3rd one is difficult πŸ˜€ Will complete the tag soon!

I watched Twister in between Jumanji and Independence day – which were themselves great movies! But still, I liked Twister more! The number of movies is your choice, I thought it might be difficult to come up with a description for each movie thats why i restricted it to 3

  8. V Rakesh

Some interesting movies there, DI. Many thanks for tagging. Will do that soon!

Pls do and let me know, so that I can mention that as a part of this post and link back to you…

  9. D.A

the first 2 lines of the post are apt for me too. so here are some of my suggestions – The Painted Veil, Into the Wild and umm..ah! Amelie!! =)

I guess I have not seen any of the three movies you have listed! But hope to see them all soon – thanks πŸ™‚

    1. Avada Kedavra

I loveeed The Painted Veil movie.. it will make an entry into one of my fav movies for sure πŸ™‚

  10. Man of Roma

You and Poonam Sharma, if I am not wrong, are the only ones who made me do a tag. I’ll see what I can do. As I said, my blog has a will of its own. I also have a difficulty of thinking about 3 movies I found ‘really super’. I will see.

    Thanks for popping up DI!

    MoR

No probs, just list some good Italian movies in this comments section, and I will make it a part of the post… We just want some good movies that we can see… Of course, you can list more than three… I thought giving a description for each movie might be difficult if large no. of movies were to be listed, that's why i put it as three…

  11. Man of Roma

    Hi DI,

    This is my list:

    1) Il gattopardo (The Leopard ) directed by Luchino Visconti, 1963.

    2) Fellini 8 e mezzo directed by Federico Fellini, 1963

    3) Bicycle Thieves, directed by Vittorio Se Sica, 1948.

Should people be interested in more recent works – although it has to be considered that Italian films were at a high international level only until the 1970s – these two are not bad in my view:

    Il Postino (The Postman) 1994

    Life is Beautiful (1997).

Here you have a description in English of the said movies among a wider list:

    http://filmsdefrance.com/Best_Italian_Films.html

    All the best

    MoR

Thank you so much MOR, should we ever get access to watch foreign movies in future those recommendations will be good references…

  12. Nita

As I promised I am doing the tag in the comments section. I enjoy a lot of movies but I have a rating from one to ten where one is enjoyable and ten is extremely enjoyable. The enjoyable happens for many subjective reasons. For me Back to the Future and Matrix are way above five and As Good as it Gets is a little above five. There are hundreds of other movies which I have thoroughly enjoyed but my favourite genre is SF and therefore the top two movies are from there. I enjoy a lot of crappy SF movies too. πŸ™‚ I love Romance too and Mughaleazam is my favourite Hindi movie.

Never knew you were a fan of Sci-Fi movies! I mean, your blog did not reflect that part much! Thanks for doing the tag, Especially for mentioning THE MATRIX πŸ™‚ I will list them in the post now…

    1. Man of Roma

Hi Nita! Glad to read you again! G

Nita still blogs @ Palmistry For You

    2. Sudarshan

Hey Nita(…), nice to see you πŸ™‚
Just wanted say I love “Back to Future” all 3 movies, we can’t treat them as 3 movies really, its just one movie cut in 3 parts πŸ™‚

      @DI
Cool tag. But isn’t it unfair to make people list only top 3 movies? πŸ˜› I mean its really hard for me to pick only 3 πŸ˜€

      1. Rajesh K

        Hi Suda,

Welcome. Yeah, I know its hard to pick just three movies. In fact, many who did the tag listed more than three movies. Why don’t you do it?

        Destination Infinity

        1. Sudarshan

I did it for Marathi and Hindi movies, Here
Will do English and others later πŸ™‚ Thanks for the idea πŸ™‚

          1. Rajesh K

Thanks, I saw that and have linked it from here too…

            Destination Infinity

  13. Swaram

Am just like what u hv said too. Hardly watch movies, but there are a few which have really left an impression πŸ™‚

Wil come up with a list soon. Thanks for the tag πŸ™‚

Do mention some Kannada movies – I understand a bit of Kannada and hence can watch it!

  14. Wortman

    My three movies are online.

My pingback is on the road πŸ˜‰

Thanks, Wortman. I have published them in the post. Only I don't know how to watch them! But if we get a chance to see foreign movies in future, we know which ones to watch first πŸ™‚

  15. Avada Kedavra

Hey DI.. I completed the tag.. check out the list: Here

    Thanks for the tag! πŸ™‚

Yeah noted, I have published the movies here too… Now I am starting to get a good list πŸ™‚

  16. Bikram

you got a nice choice …

    πŸ™‚

    Bikram's

  17. axinia

Dear DI, thanks a lot for taggin me, here is my result: http://1000petals.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/tag-my

  18. Sandhya

The tag is done, Destination Infinity!

    http://maradhimanni.blogspot.com/2010/12/these-ar

Yeah, I have gone through the same and I have linked it from my post too…. Thanks for doing the Tag….

  19. I_am_Tulsa

nice list! I will try to figure out what my top 3 are too…but this is goon be very difficult!

Also, I quite agree with what you said about meditation…atmosphere can be very important…sometimes it is good to focus on one object so that you can concentrate on that instead of what goes on in your head…like everything, it takes practice!

    Have a great week πŸ™‚

    1. Rajesh K

You can give us three or even more movies that are your favorite… This is just to get an idea about some good Japanese movies… I think as we move on in life, mental as well as physical exercising becomes important, and hopefully we will practice more and become good at it!
