Incredible India: Konark Sun Temple, Odisha

Konark sun temple 12

The Konark Sun Temple, Odisha, East India is a UNESCO World Heritage Monument and was built around 1250 CE by Narasimhadeva I. The structure was built to resemble a giant chariot with wheels, horses, etc. but a large portion of it is in ruins now. This photo shows the surviving 30-meter high structure, but there was a larger, Temple-like structure (70-meter tall), right in front of it. This site is famous for its brilliantly carved intricate sculptures. See more pics from here, in this blog post.
