What is Destination Infinity & My Auto-biography

Destination Infinity

If you have visited my About page (Its ok, if you haven’t because I too don’t visit about pages in other blogs, that’s why I am making a separate post), then you would be familiar with the reason for starting this blog.

I forgot the exact year, but I guess I was studying in 8th or 9th Standard back then. There was a competition announced by the Tourism Department of the Government of India, and they had announced in the news papers that they were looking for a Tag line for Indian Tourism (mainly to use it to promote Indian Tourism abroad, I guess) and hence people could contribute their ideas (it was like a contest).

‘Incredible India!’ which you see so much nowadays, should have won that contest, I guess (To its credit, I too think its a nice tag line). But my entry to that contest was ‘Destination Infinity’. Just imagine Indian Tourism on top and Destination Infinity just below that…. I thought this was the most intellectual tag line that anyone could ever come up with!

But you know the Government no, there is a lot of red-tapism (In my case, I suspect corruption also but since I don’t have any proof to substantiate it, I just keep suspecting!) πŸ™‚

So, I became very upset and I decided that one day, I will make Destination Infinity even more popular than Incredible India! (I don’t have any problem with Incredible India! being so popular, but I just want Destination Infinity to become more popular than that). So, common Government, GIVE ME SOME COMPETITION πŸ˜›

That’s one reason I have started to explore tourist places within my region (some of them not much popular) and write about them with photos. You could also give me some ideas in the comments section as to how I can achieve my goal.

Secondly, there is one more goal in my life that I am pursuing with equal zest. I want to write my autobiography. This is actually a consequence of my first goal and I am planning to publish it after 32 years, because that’s when I will become 60 years old.

I want my autobiography to break all the international best selling records (yes, you read it right – ‘international’) and I want my marketing campaign (for selling it) to go on records as the longest marketing campaign for anything. You’ll buy it won’t you?

You might have noticed that I read a lot of popular autobiographies. I do them not because I am amused by them. But I am assessing my competition – I want to see how well people have written biographies/autobiographies so that I can beat them all, with mine.

For some reason, I have classified this post under the ‘humour’ category! πŸ™‚ Instead of laughing your heart out, give me some ideas.

Yesterday came here to check why you didn’t post anything and read your about page

I loved the reason behind naming your blog…..

All best for ur autobiography. When u publish it do send me a free copy.

    1. Rajesh K

Free copy?? The idea behind marketing is to sell ya… πŸ™‚ But I can give free copies to bloggers, if they can review it (very very positively) on their blogs πŸ˜€

i do appreceate your thurst of being succesesfull….but u hav to agree with the tag incrdible india…it hav a wide meaning and broad concept which u dint follow i guss…india as a whole is a cultural feast not just a destination…india is not jst a tourist spot…i can only say right nw is india is just incredible due to its culture, heritage, diversity, integrity and many more…..think abt it….

      3. Rajesh K

Exactly. The ‘culture, heritage, diversity, integrity(??)’ and more importantly ‘many more’ is what I meant by using the word ‘Infinity’ there. The tag was required to promote tourism abroad and that’s why I added ‘destination’. But ‘Infinity’ takes the tag beyond just tourist locations… It was supposed to mean something like – what ever one experiences in India (including visiting tourist spots), it will affect them profoundly and the only word to describe such experiences would be ‘Infinity’.

To add, ‘Infinity’ means both positive and negative things one might experience here. For example, if an auto-walla charges more in India (especially foreigners) that may be due to the fact that the govt prescribed meters are (maybe) not enough for him to make a decent living, and people ought to look at the fact that he has to support a family with his earnings. Its easy to criticize the auto-walla for overcharging, but its essential to think beyond! If you compare the per-KM charges of auto’s here and taxis abroad, a comprehensive picture can be made. But the Govt’s inability to enforce standardization (that is fair to both parties) is apparent and cannot be hidden. The visitors have to know that and possibly analyze (fairly) why these things might be happening here, more than any other place, instead of just criticizing!

India is not always incredible – there are positive as well as negative things in this country, like any other. And people have to accept both when they come here. And ‘Infinity’ is the best word that encompasses everything.

Of course, I would like incredible India to become very popular – no doubt. But my aim would be to become more popular than that. Not by criticizing it, but by taking it along πŸ™‚

    LOL! πŸ˜€

Why did you classify it under ‘humour’ category? Agreed it is written with a tinge of humour, but that doesnt mean it should not be taken with all seriousness na πŸ™‚

    1. Rajesh K

Its humour, if I don’t achieve it. Its serious, if I achieve it. Win-Win Situation πŸ˜€

Very cool that you are doing this. I don’t know anyone writing an autobiography. I love to read them though. I love stories with in-depth human experiences. I think it is smart to check out other autobiographies, sort of like market research.

As far as the about page, really? My about page gets as many hits as blog posts but I think I know why, hehe.

Anyway, good luck on the book writing journey. πŸ™‚

    1. Rajesh K

First I have to live my life, only then I can write about it! Yeah, reading autobiographies is a very good experience… One can learn a lot.

Uber cool! πŸ™‚ I think Destination Infinity is better than Incredible India! πŸ™‚ Government was prolly worried that the dorais might mistake “Infinity” to stand for “infinite corruption” or “infinite-paan-parag-stains-on-the-road” or something. Fair worry, that.

    Good luck with your autobiography.

P.S- Destination Infinity logo done using Photoshop?! If not, try PS or Illustrator.

I must say, that after a very long long time – you have become the first person to actually say (anywhere) that DI is better than II πŸ˜€

I didn’t do that logo. I am planning to do one very soon – using Inkscape. I am an open source software supporter and user!

Well, I think Destination Infinity is a far better and more clever title than Incredible India, but I know why Incredible India won. That’s because it’s simpler to understand and more direct.
About the autobiography it’s a good idea to do it when you are 60 and above. If that is your goal, you can do something different. People want to know how the other half lives, and try and explore the murky side of Coimbatore. Just an idea.

    1. Rajesh K

Its because Incredible India won, that I am going for Destination Infinity with all the passion that I have. Let’s see which becomes bigger and more popular – The Government’s institutions, money, position and power (or) a single person’s passion. Right now its Incredible India, but things may be different in the future πŸ˜€

There is a chance, that the autobiography will end up making DI popular, more than this blog! Of course I am writing it only when I am 60 years old, and I will write about the murky and the good sides of whatever cities I would have lived. I am sparing no city. πŸ™‚

Autobiography? will definitely “buy” it.. wont wait for a free copy πŸ˜›
Loved the story behind “DI”.. Do more travelling and write more posts on good places to visit.. I love travelling and love reading about it.
One suggestion I can give is read some travel blogs and see how they are presenting their posts.. you will get some ideas.. And buy a very good camera..

    1. Rajesh K

Yeah, I ought to see other travel blogs to get an idea of different types of presentations – that’s been on my mind for some time, but I never did anything about it! But other than travel, I am thinking of what other ways are there to represent the richness, uniqueness and beauty of India. Do tell if you get some ideas.

Right now I am very happy with my HTC Mobile camera! I don’t know why, I just love the pictures it takes! I am hoping that I won’t change my cell phone soon!!
