JAISALMER FORT AND CITY

Jaisalmer Fort, Rajasthan, North (Western) India is one of the largest forts in the world – the fort is more than 1 KM long and the circumference wall is more than 5 KM! Built in 1156 CE by the Rajput ruler, Rawal Jaisal, it is located on the top of a small hill in the great Thar desert.There are three layers of walls that protect the fort from enemies and until recent times, the entire population of this city lived inside the fort! Around 500 to 600 Thousand tourists visit this fort annually. More pics here.
