Gommateshawara statue

Shravanabelagola, located in Hassan District, Karnataka, South India, is a very important Jain pilgrimage center. The 57-feet tall statue of Gomateshwara Bahubali is considered to be one of the largest monolithic statues of its kind. Inscriptions near the statue date it to 981 CE. Chandragupta Maurya is said to have meditated and lived here during his last days and Emperor Asoka has constructed a monument dedicated to him.  There are two hills – Chandragiri & Vindhyagiri, in this location.
