The Pancha Rathas, Mahabalipuram, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, South India are a group of UNESCO World Heritage monuments built by the Pallavas in 7-8 CE. There are five major monuments (rathas) that represents each Pandava brother, in Mahabaratha (Indian Epic). These rock-cut sculptures were made by cutting from a single large granite rock (initially). It is estimated that even with many trained sculptures, these monuments might have taken a few years to complete!
